Welcome to Dr Carlos Iván del Valle Morales, new PDRA in the group

Dr Carlos Iván del Valle Morales received his B.Eng. and M.Eng. in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering, ETSIT, UPM) in 2018 in Spain, and his Ph.D. (cum laude) in Electrical, Electronic and Automation Engineering in 2024 from Carlos III University of Madrid in Spain. He was a visiting research fellow at Northumbria University (NU), Newcastle upon Tyne in 2022 and 2023.

He worked in IPB Systems SL, where he participated in designing RF drone jammers. He also worked in Optiva Media (an EPAM company) as an Electrical Engineer and a researcher at Carlos III University of Madrid for almost 6 years in both. He worked at NU as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Free-Space Optical Communication Systems for Inter-Satellite Links in the Northumbria Space Technology Laboratory, involved in developing the UK’s first inter-satellite laser communications between CubeSats. He was a Research Fellow at NU, working on characterising optoelectronic devices for optical wireless communication and development of transceivers.

He is currently working as a research associate at Heriot-Watt University, focusing on positioning, navigation and timing, RF hardware design among others.

His research interest includes RF and optical wireless communication, RF hardware design, energy harvesting, free-space optics communication, real time positioning systems, satellite communications and electro-optical devices for communications.
