Research Scope: We propose to exploit ambient signals to access ever-changing available frequency spectrum in crowded EM environment through ambient backscattering technology with adaptive modulation schemes. Exploiting spread spectrum techniques and agile frequency shifting, ambient backscattering signals can always find spectrum opportunities to enable friendly communication parties ‘staying securely in contact’ in contested, congested and potentially hostile environments. This is in contrast to the conventional cognitive radio, since no additional active transmission takes place.
